Authorities are responding to an active shooter situation near Emory University’s Atlanta campus on Friday afternoon, prompting urgent shelter-in-place orders for students and staff.

The reported incident occurred in the Emory Point area, near a CVS store, according to university alerts.

Emory University’s Office of Critical Event Preparedness and Response issued a warning on X, stating:

“Emory Emergency: Active shooter on Emory Atlanta Campus at Emory Point CVS. RUN, HIDE, FIGHT. Avoid the area. Shelter in place.”

Heavy Law Enforcement Presence at the Scene

Multiple agencies have been dispatched to the location, including the DeKalb County Police Department, the Atlanta Police Department, and the Emory University Police Department.

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that county police are actively working at the scene.

A spokesperson for Grady Hospital told Fox News that one police officer was transported to Emory University Hospital. No further details were immediately available on the officer’s condition or whether other injuries had been reported.

Proximity to CDC and Key University Facilities

The reported shooting location is not only near the heart of the Emory campus but also close to the main campus of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The incident’s proximity to such critical institutions has heightened the security response.

Emory University is a major private institution with nine academic divisions, including Emory College of Arts and Sciences, the Goizueta Business School, and the Emory School of Medicine.

The primary undergraduate college enrolls more than 5,700 students. The school is also affiliated with Emory Healthcare, Georgia’s largest healthcare system.

Authorities have urged the public to stay clear of Emory Point and surrounding areas while the investigation continues.

As of Friday afternoon, law enforcement had not released information on the shooter’s identity, motive, or whether the situation had been fully contained.
