Allen earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the California Institute of Technology in 2017, and the AP reported that the LinkedIn profile showed him in a cap and gown after receiving a master’s degree in computer science from California State University-Dominguez Hills. A computer science professor at the university told AP that Allen had been a polite and diligent student.
AP also reported that Allen’s online resume said he had worked for six years at C2 Education, a tutoring and test preparation company, and that a company Facebook post named him “Teacher of the Month” in 2024. The company did not immediately respond to AP’s request for comment.
The same AP report said Allen had developed a chemistry-based video game for the Steam platform and had posted about work on a combat game set in outer space. AP also reported that federal campaign finance records showed a $25 contribution to a Democratic Party political action committee supporting Kamala Harris in 2024. That single donation, by itself, does not establish a motive, and authorities have not said politics drove the attack.
