Hunter Biden has dismissed a $1 billion legal notice from first lady Melania Trump over remarks linking her to Jeffrey Epstein, calling the threat “not gonna happen” during a profanity-laced interview released Thursday.
The dispute stems from an earlier August interview on the “Channel 5” YouTube channel, in which Biden claimed, “Epstein introduced Melania to Trump. The connections are, like, so wide and deep.”
Following the remarks, Melania Trump’s attorney Alejandro Brito sent Biden and his attorney, Abbe Lowell, a letter on Aug. 6 demanding an immediate retraction and apology.
The letter called the statements “false, defamatory, disparaging and inflammatory,” and warned of legal action to recover “overwhelming financial and reputational harm.”
In the new interview with “Channel 5” host Andrew Callaghan, Biden was told he had the opportunity to apologize. He refused, saying, “F— that. That’s not gonna happen,” and accused the first lady’s legal team of intimidation.
Biden Doubles Down
Rather than retracting his statements, Biden challenged the Trumps to participate in a deposition.
“If they want to sit down for a deposition and clarify the nature of the relationship between Jeffrey Epstein – if the president, the first lady, want to do that… I’m more than happy to provide them the platform,” he said.
Biden further claimed that the $1 billion demand would not deter him, characterizing it as an attempt to scare him into silence.
First Lady’s Legal Position
In his letter, Brito insisted that Biden issue a retraction “in as conspicuous a manner” as the original publication, and apologize for the statements made.
The letter emphasized that the video, published in early August, had been widely shared across media platforms and social networks, reaching tens of millions of viewers.
“These false, disparaging, defamatory and inflammatory statements are extremely salacious and have been widely disseminated throughout various digital mediums,” Brito wrote.
“Consequently, you have caused Mrs. Trump to suffer overwhelming financial and reputational harm.”
