The Department of Justice has released several hours of audio recordings and hundreds of pages of transcripts from interviews conducted with Ghislaine Maxwell, the longtime associate of Jeffrey Epstein who is currently serving a 20-year federal prison sentence.
The interviews, carried out by Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche in a Florida federal prison, mark the most extensive public record yet of Maxwell’s own account of her relationship with Epstein and her perspective on the ongoing speculation surrounding high-profile individuals allegedly connected to his crimes.
Maxwell Granted Limited Immunity for Interviews
Maxwell, who was convicted in 2021 of trafficking underage girls on behalf of Epstein, participated in the interviews under terms that offered her limited immunity from further prosecution — as long as she told the truth.
The Department of Justice published the audio files and accompanying transcripts on its official website, giving the public unprecedented access to Maxwell’s version of events.
In the recordings, Maxwell emphatically denied the existence of a so-called “client list” tied to Epstein’s alleged sex trafficking network. She also rejected claims that Epstein kept blackmail material on powerful individuals.
According to Maxwell, the notion of such a list emerged from a civil lawsuit filed by the now-defunct law firm Rothstein Adler in 2009, shortly after Epstein’s first conviction.
She said one of the lawyers had contacted the FBI claiming to possess evidence — a document referred to as “the list” — which she believes originated from Epstein’s former butler.
High-Profile Names Addressed in the Interview
Throughout the interviews, Maxwell commented on the involvement of well-known public figures who have been associated with Epstein.
She said she never saw President Donald Trump behave inappropriately with anyone, nor did she witness any wrongdoing by Prince Andrew.
Addressing long-standing rumors involving former President Bill Clinton, Maxwell stated that Clinton had not visited Epstein’s private island and maintained that the Clintons were her friends — not Epstein’s.
Regarding the widely circulated photo of Prince Andrew with Virginia Giuffre and Maxwell, allegedly taken in her London townhouse, she claimed it was fake.
Maxwell said she did not believe that the prince and Giuffre had met. Giuffre, who accused Prince Andrew of sexual abuse, died by suicide earlier this year.
Although the prince has always denied the allegations, he settled with Giuffre in 2022 and stepped away from royal duties as the scandal unfolded.
Epstein and Their Relationship
Maxwell described Epstein as “a disgusting guy who did terrible things to young kids” and stated that she had no intention of defending him or minimizing his crimes.
She confirmed her previous claims that she does not believe Epstein committed suicide, a theory also maintained by Epstein’s brother.
Maxwell also disclosed that Epstein had told her he suffered from a heart condition that prevented him from engaging in normal sexual intercourse and said his behavior began to change in the late 1990s when he started taking testosterone.
Their own sexual relationship, according to Maxwell, ended in 1999. She reflected that Epstein may have never loved her and was not truly interested in her, noting that he would allegedly instruct others to lie to her and conceal information.
She also remarked that Epstein began traveling more frequently with “masseuses,” using that as a cover for illicit activities.
