Elon Musk ignited a political firestorm on Thursday with a bombshell accusation aimed at President Donald Trump, claiming the president’s name appears in the unreleased Jeffrey Epstein files.
The post came in the wake of Musk’s departure from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), fueling speculation about deepening tensions between the once-allied power players.
“@RealDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files,” Musk posted on X. “That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!” The explosive claim was quickly followed by another cryptic message: “Mark this post for the future. The truth will come out.”
The tech billionaire’s allegations came amid a public feud with Trump over the so-called “Big Beautiful Bill,” a sweeping government reform and tax cut package Musk has recently criticized.
Once a vocal supporter of Trump’s second-term initiatives, Musk has pivoted to become one of his most outspoken critics since being removed from his informal advisory role in DOGE.
Trump Fires Back, Dismisses Musk’s Claims
President Trump responded swiftly on Truth Social, brushing off Musk’s attack while reiterating his support for the legislation at the center of their dispute.
“I don’t mind Elon turning against me, but he should have done so months ago,” Trump wrote. “This is one of the Greatest Bills ever presented to Congress.”
The president called the package a record $1.6 trillion spending cut and the “Biggest Tax Cut ever given,” warning of dire economic consequences if it fails to pass.
Trump then accused Musk of losing control after being removed from his position advising DOGE. “Elon was ‘wearing thin,’ I asked him to leave,” Trump stated. “I took away his EV Mandate that forced everyone to buy Electric Cars… and he just went CRAZY!”
Epstein File Controversy Continues
Musk’s post reopens a highly sensitive issue that has loomed over American elites for years—the unreleased Epstein client list. In February, Attorney General Pam Bondi acknowledged delays in the release of Epstein’s full file, blaming an FBI field office in New York.
Bondi reported receiving only 200 pages, far fewer than what was made public during the Ghislaine Maxwell civil litigation. She stated that key pieces—such as the client list, video recordings, and unredacted records—remain under review. Bondi has claimed the list was on her desk awaiting final clearance.
So far, documents released to the public include flight logs, a contact book, redacted masseuse lists, and evidence summaries.
Some individuals named have been accused of criminal involvement, such as Maxwell and Prince Andrew. However, many have not been linked to wrongdoing and continue to deny involvement.
Political Fallout from Musk’s Accusation
Musk’s claim marks a dramatic escalation in his feud with Trump and carries potentially massive political consequences. If substantiated, the allegation could deeply undermine Trump’s messaging around law-and-order, anti-corruption, and draining the so-called “swamp.”
However, no evidence has yet been released to support Musk’s assertion. Trump has not been officially linked to Epstein in any of the unsealed case files released to date.
