Russia launched one of its largest aerial bombardments since the start of the Ukraine war, firing over 600 drones and missiles overnight across the country, including a direct strike on an American-owned company in western Ukraine.
The attack, which injured at least 15 people, comes as President Donald Trump pushes for renewed peace negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv.
Ukrainian officials confirmed Thursday that several Russian cruise missiles hit a facility owned by Flex Ltd., a U.S. electronics manufacturer based in Austin, Texas. The facility, located in the city of Mukachevo, sits just 30 miles from NATO member borders with Hungary and Slovakia.
Ukrainian President Condemns Strike on Civilian Site
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy responded strongly to the attack, which he said demonstrated Russia’s true intentions despite ongoing diplomatic efforts.
“Last night, the Russian army set one of its insane anti-records,” Zelenskyy said Thursday. “They targeted civilian infrastructure facilities, residential buildings, and our people.”
He described the Flex Ltd. plant as “a regular civilian business, supported by American investment, producing everyday items like coffee machines.” Zelenskyy added that the strike was “very telling” in light of Trump’s active push for peace.
While Trump said earlier this week that “it’s possible Putin doesn’t want to make a deal,” the situation on the ground in Ukraine appears to be escalating.
Flex Ltd. Confirms Civilian Operations Only
Flex Ltd. confirmed that its Mukachevo facility does not engage in any military-related production.
“This facility does not produce, supply, or support any military equipment or defense-related components,” company spokesperson Teresa Pham-Carsillo said.
Following the attack, the site was evacuated under emergency protocols.
“A few employees and contractors were injured, and six individuals remain in hospital and are receiving medical care,” Pham-Carsillo confirmed. The company is still assessing the full extent of the damage.
The company has a global footprint but maintains its headquarters in Austin, Texas. The strike on its facility marks a significant escalation in risk for Western companies operating inside Ukraine, even those not involved in defense or government contracts.
Scale of Russian Attack Raises Concerns
In total, Russia launched 574 drones and 40 missiles overnight, according to Ukrainian military officials. The barrage targeted numerous civilian areas across Ukraine, making it one of the most intense attacks in recent months.
The White House did not immediately comment on the missile strike against a U.S. company. President Trump, however, suggested on Tuesday that Putin’s willingness to pursue peace may not be genuine.
“We’re going to find out about President Putin in the next couple of weeks,” Trump said.
Meanwhile, European officials are also expressing doubt over Russia’s intentions.
