A shooting at Fort Stewart in Georgia on Wednesday morning left five soldiers injured and triggered a lockdown across the base.
Military officials confirmed that the incident occurred in the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team (ABCT) area. The suspected shooter was taken into custody within an hour.
According to base authorities, emergency medical teams responded quickly to the scene, and the wounded soldiers were initially treated on-site before being transported to Winn Army Community Hospital for further care.
Timeline of the Incident and Immediate Response
Law enforcement at Fort Stewart received the initial call regarding an active shooter at 10:56 a.m. The base went into lockdown within minutes.
Emergency medical personnel arrived by 11:09 a.m., and the suspect was apprehended at approximately 11:35 a.m., less than 40 minutes after the first report.
Officials lifted the lockdown of the main cantonment area at 12:10 p.m., although the 2nd ABCT complex remained restricted as of Wednesday afternoon. Authorities confirmed there was no ongoing threat to the broader Fort Stewart community.
President Trump and Georgia Officials Briefed
President Donald Trump was briefed on the situation shortly after the attack, according to White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, who addressed the matter via social media.
Georgia Governor Brian Kemp also acknowledged the incident in a public statement, noting that his office was coordinating with law enforcement on the ground. “Marty, the girls, and I are saddened by today’s tragedy at Ft. Stewart,” Kemp wrote.
“We are keeping the victims, their families, and all those who answer the call to serve in our hearts and prayers, and we ask that Georgians everywhere do the same.”
